Title British Atlantic Committee: Final Resolution agreed at 20th Annual Assembly of Atlantic Treaty Association, Ottawa, 9-13 September (1974)
Description The theme of the meeting was "Atlantic Partnership: Action for Renewal." The Assembly reviewed the state of the General Alliance Policy and conclude that the North Atlantic alliance requires a broader strategy than has existed so far. One of the aims of the alliance is for solidarity among the Allies and the Greek decision to withdraw from the integrated military command system can only weaken the common defence. Another goal is to establish a more stable basis for social and civic peace in Cyprus. Another purpose of the Alliance is the quest for true detente and an end to the division in Europe including mutual and balanced force reductions in Europe (MBFR). Question of protecting sea lanes raised because of increase in Soviet naval power. A summary of discussions include economic uncertainties, NATO, A.T.A. and the Press, Lessons for NATO of recent Military experiences and Canada and NATO.
